10. Ursos: 5-10 mortes por ano
Com aparência inofensiva, os ursos são tão fortes e rápidos, que conseguem facilmente acabar com uma presa. É bom saber que eles só atacam os seres humanos no seu território, quando sentem-se ameaçados. Se por acaso você encontrar com um urso furioso, raspando o chão, recue devagar.
9. Tubarões: Cerca de 100 mortes por ano
Ao contrário dos ursos, os tubarões têm uma sólida reputação como assassinos, graças ao filme ‘Tubarão’. Esta não chega a ser uma reputação totalmente injusta. O Tubarão Tigre e o grande Tubarão Branco são conhecidos por serem assassinos das águas. Há um número elevado de ataques de tubarão pelo mundo, mas mortes reais são baixas.
8. Medusa: Cerca de 100 mortes por ano
Estas criaturas fascinantes e belas podem ser bastante prejudiciais para suas vítimas. Seus tentáculos podem paralisar um ser humano e provocar um ataque cardíaco. A Box Jellyfish é uma das criaturas mais venenosas do oceano e sua picada pode matar um humano em poucos minutos. Se você for picado, uma dica é sair da água e aplicar vinagre no local. Escovar o local ou retirar o ferrão também ajuda.
7. Hipopótamo: 100 – 150 mortes por ano
Os hipopótamos são animais altamente agressivos que, muitas vezes, são encarados como dóceis e banhistas preguiçosos. Apesar do seu corpo, os hipopótamos são corredores incrivelmente rápidos, podendo facilmente ultrapassar um humano na terra. É desaconselhável ficar próximo a um hipopótamo ou se bater com ele na água. Tal como os ursos, os hipopótamos não reagem bem ao serem surpreendidos, portanto, fazer barulho para alertá-los sobre sua presença é sábio.
6. Elefantes: 300 – 350 mortes por ano
Apesar de muitas pessoas associarem todos os elefantes com aqueles amigáveis elefantes que encontramos em zoológicos, essas criaturas muitas vezes atacam sem aviso e são conhecidos por matar guardas florestais. Seu tamanho, combinado com seu enorme peso e presas afiadas torna-o quase imbatível. É melhor evitar um encontro com ele. O melhor é fazer barulho para espantá-lo e, em seguida, encontrar uma árvore bem alta para subir.
5. Crocodilos: 600 – 800 mortes por ano
Não é nenhuma surpresa que os crocodilos tenham sobrevivido na Terra por cerca de 200 milhões de anos. Os crocodilos são predadores especializados. Eles precisam de uma refeição para manter suas fontes de energia por um bom tempo. Isto significa que eles têm tempo para esperar e planejar seu próximo ataque.
4. Felinos selvagens: cerca de 800 mortes por ano
Leões, tigres e jaguares compõem essa categoria. Eles são incrivelmente rápidos e possuem musculatura para abater sua presa com facilidade. Os grandes felinos continuam a perder seu habitat e aumentar o número de ataques a seres humanos.
3. Escorpiões: 800 – 2000 mortes por ano
Estas criaturas têm picada venenosa, responsável por grande número de mortes, principalmente porque tendem a ser encontrados em lugares isolados. Apesar de terem uma estrutura menor do que a maioria dos predadores listados aqui, o escorpião intimida ao olhar. Embora existam cerca de 1500 espécies de escorpião pelo mundo, apenas cerca de 150 deles são considerados perigosos.
2. Cobras: 50.000 – 125.000 mortes por ano
A maioria dos ataques de serpentes mortais ocorrem na África, Ásia e América do Norte. Reconhecidamente, existem mais de 450 espécies que são venenosas. Algumas são muito bonitas e fascinantes apenas para observar, no entanto, a maioria das pessoas que sofreram ataques afirmam que se aproximaram demais para observar melhor ou tentaram capturar. Cobras que sentem-se ameaçadas certamente atacarão. Algumas chegam a cuspir veneno nos olhos da vítima.

Um tratamento com DDT é o mais eficaz. Nas zonas de malária, usar roupas longas e coloridas ajuda bastante.
